Cupcakes are meant to be sweet, sure thing. How about trying out an easy savory cupcake recipe the next time you feel like making cupcakes?
Savory cupcakes may not be that popular. Yet again, they are perfect for breakfast or any time you crave a salty snack during the day. Believe it or not, there are lots and lots of options for non-sweet cupcakes and it’s really about your taste when choosing which savory cupcake recipe to prepare first.
Here is a suggestion for a savory cupcake recipe that is super easy to make. It’s one of my favourites because it doesn’t require lots of ingredients and that it turns out perfect every time. Another reason why I prefer this salty cupcake recipe instead of other recipes for savory cupcakes it that it gives me the freedom to add additional ingredients (usually what I already have at hand) without ruining the recipe.
Ingredients:
- 120g flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup ham, diced
- 1/2 cup cheese, shredded
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Optional: any herb mix that you like, extra ham and cheese, onion, bell pepper, spinach or any other veggies.
How to prepare this easy savory cupcake recipe:
- Preheat oven to 180C degrees
- Place cupcake cases into the cupcake pan and spray with non-stick cooking spray
- Whisk together the eggs, veggies oil, salt and pepper. If you are adding any other herbs or seasonings, which them in as well.
- Add the flour and baking powder into the mixture and combine.
- Stir in the diced ham and cheese.
- Pour the mixture into the cupcake cases and make sure they each is about ¾ full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes. You can tell that the cupcakes are ready when the tops are lightly browned. Another option is to insert a toothpick in the center of a couple of cupcakes – if it comes with no breadcrumbs attached to it, your cupcakes are ready.
- Pop the tray out of the oven and let it cool a bit before serving. In case you won’t serve right away, transfer the cupcakes onto a wire rack and let cool completely.
A great thing about this savory cupcake recipe is that it is just as delicious served hot or cold. You can make it ahead of time and store in an air tight container in your fridge. Stored this way, your cupcakes will last a week. Another option is to freeze them for later.
This easy savory cupcake recipe is perfect if you love good food! Give it a try!
